I mostly agree with Rene. I have used a Hennessey hammock for extended backpacking trips. It is very comfortable, but if the temperature drops below 35 degrees, it is difficult to stay warm in a hammock AND keep the weight down at the same time.
As for the Trangia or any other alcohol stove, yes, I like. I use the trangia while both backpacking and cycle touring. I have never blackened a pot with alcohol, one of the things I like about using it. Also, if you spill any inside your back or tent, it harms nothing and leaves no odor. One problem is that they are so quiet that you can forget they are lit and singe yourself if not careful, particularly when burning in daylight when the blue flame is even more difficult to see. I purchased an aftermarket windscreen for my Trangia kit that has greatly enhanced is functionality. I bought it from a company called Clickstand (not to be confused with the company that makes bike stands callled Click-Stand). Has anyone tried the ENO hammocks? They have a bug net and also a rain fly as part of their system. In Venezuela I learned to sleep in hammocks and this system seems like the perfect solution when you don't want to pack a tent. I also use the Trangia and love it. I use denaturated alcohol and dony get qny soot. So far I've only use it to boil water for the dried food bags. Another advantage is that its completely safe.
