Inspired by Mike's Larch Mountain ride and the recent SF fixed/ss
ride, I decided to yank the Quickbeam out of commuting duty for a
little fun in the mtns above Boulder. After relieving the QB of 9
pounds of saddlebags, racks, kickstands and other useful city stuff, I
proceeded to load it back up with waxed cotton, wool, jerky, homemade
coconut/nut/seed/dried fruit balls and other useful mountain stuff.

Route: Boulder - N US36 - Lefthand Canyon Drive - CR 94 (thru
Jamestown) - Peak to Peak Hwy - Ward - Lefthand Canyon Dr. - US 36 -
Boulder

I had ridden all of this except for CR 94. Jamestown is neat little
community, and the road above it offers some really nice dirt road
riding and views of the Indian Peaks.

I ran the QB fixed until the super steep parts above Jamestown where I
couldn't make the revolutions anymore. Changed gears (first time ever
in the field) and it only took 15 minutes in the rain :)

Great ride! Wore me out completely. And will definitely take more
people along on my next fixed/ss jaunt into the Front Range. Any
takers?

On my Mt. Evans ride the other day, I left my wind beater vest at home
and didn't realize it until I started pedaling up from Idaho Springs.
I had plenty of wool layers, but nothing to cut the wind for the 28
mile downhill. And then it hit me - I had my own RBW windshield hack
in my saddle bag. Worked like a charm. Might like it better than my
vest. Check it here: http://tinyurl.com/2e2cum8
