I think I resemble that last remark (banged up and grubby over time)

I agree I love the look of DT shifters but the bar ends shifters just
feel right. I am just switching my Claud Butler Touring bike to
Suntour 7 speed bar ends right now. I had Simplex  Retrofrictions and
they are lovely to gaze at but not as convenient for my aging body
