I totally agree, and I think therein lies the problem. They don't work right with regular indexed shifters. I road a friends bike with a RR derailer and brifters. It was kind of fun cresting a hill and being able to down shift 3 cogs at a once, but going up a hill or coming to an unexpected stop, it was *really* annoying and painfully slow up shifting 1 cog at a click.
