Especially so because gasoline fumes are heavier than air, and they
collect on the floor, where they can build up a nice explosive mixture
of air and fuel vapor, very handy for dropped cigarettes and sparks
struck off shoes, not to mention sparks from electrical connections.
It's a really, really bad idea.

Kerosene's better, but it stinks.  Odorless mineral spirits are much
better in that they don't stink at all.
