I have; works fine.

My experience:
10 sp chains work with anything including 3/32 fixed cogs tho' they
might slip between chainrings on older cranksets.
9 sp chains work on anything including some 10 sp cassettes
8 sp chains rub -- slightly -- on 9 sp and 10 sp but work with anything else
Latest: 1/8" ss chain almost works on 7 sp cassette -- only problem is
that it rubs on 46 when in 36 and smaller cogs.

Friction: I shifted an 8 sp cassette with a 10 sp chain, friction; no
problems. Shifted a 7 sp cassette with 9 sp chain, no problems. (Heck,
shifted 10 sp cassettes with friction, no problems.)
