I'm curious as to what you struggled with in outfitting your Riv. For
me the hardest things have been BE vs DT shifter, plastic vs steel
fenders, and tire size.

My Hilsen has gone through numerous changes. I recently had it set-up
with DT shifters, steel fenders and JB greens but have gone back to BE
shifters and am trying to figure out what tire to use for winter. I
want something sturdier. And while I've gotten pretty good at setting
up my Berthoud fenders and like their coverage, I kinda prefer SKS
just because they're even easier to take on and off (when using
Sheldon nuts). Oh, and pedals have become an issue. More and more I'm
prefering to ride in platform pedals.

Of the many ways I've set-up my Hilsen I really think my favorite is
with BE shifters, MKS sneaker pedals and Schwalbe Marathon 700x40s
with no fenders (in the summer). I've managed to make the 40s work
with SKS fenders but it's a bit tight. Oh, and I like the looks of a
bike with some kind of rear rack or large bag for carrying things.
