Joel, Couldn't agree more. Fortunately, having quality lights, fenders, tires etc making riding in sub-optimal (but not hideous) conditions quite fun. There is a certain satisfaction with adapting to the elements, and appetite for that sort of challenge varies widely among riders.
And it blows my mind when I see people riding in the dark without decent lights or reflective clothes, etc... that's just stupid.
