Every time I get back onto my Quickbeam, I'm reminded why it continues to be
my favorite bicycle. Simple. Reliable. Comfortable. As the saying goes,
"Everything you need, and nothing you don't..."

The shifting is manual on the SimPleone, as is on the QB. However, I'll
admit that's probably my least used option on the bicycle. I tend to just
leave it set in fixed mode and grumble like a Tourette's-inflicted sailor
from time to time as I go up hills. But, it's also made me intimately aware
of momentum, angle and upcoming topography.

That latter bit is really the product of any single-geared setup, whether
you choose to run a coastable or fixed setup.

Then, when I do flip to the flopped side of the hub, and am able to decend a
curving roadway without having to keep my legs whirring away, I'm how
stunningly well the bicycle behaves when aided only by gravity.

The SimPleone is the only bicycle I've considered getting just to make sure
I have a backup to a bicycle I already have.

The doppio chainring setup allows a fair amount of options, and if you get
one of the doppio freewheels or fixed sprocket options, you can get options
on your options. The way I have mine set up, it has three usable gears: low
freewheel, high freewheel and fixed. (With the fixed sprocket, I run out of
dropout if I try to run in the small chainring.)

I think everyone really has to come up with the gearing setup which works
for them - the wider spacing of my setup works pretty well around these
parts for my riding.

Don't know if that's of any help, but I don't think you can go wrong with
the QB/SO.
