The question of grease on spindles is hotly debated and generates strong passions, leading to at least one major war in the Middle East. Many mfrs and experts say to grease the spindle. I have always done so and torqued to Phil specs and have never had problems, ti or steel.
All of which leads me to believe that, as long as you torque the bolts sufficiently, it really don't matter.
