"It's the future". I like it.

Kind of like how in original Star Trek, when they ate a meal, the food was 
synthetic brightly colored "nutritious" cubes...

...but in Star Trek The Next Generation, which took place 80 years after the 
original series, whenever they ate a meal it was real stuff like pea soup and 
roast turkey.
