Kris, I'd say the corollary to that is throwing a little bit of dirt into the ride. I can't imagine riding on a bike that I couldn't wander down a dirt track on. A ride just doesn't feel right if it doesn't include some dirt in it! I'm not saying a MCRB w/ 23s can't ride a road like this http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclotourist/6590503805/in/photostream (yesterday's ride), but most riders on said bike wouldn't want to do it.
