For a child that's big enough to pedal (~ages 4 through 10 or so). I've
had tremendous fun using the Burley Piccolo. It's got a very sturdy
tubular cromo rear rack that attaches to the appropriate places for a rack
to attach to, and the bike part screws on quick and easy. I've used it on
a Hillborne and a Bombadil. My kids are very close to allowing me to
retire the Piccolo and pass it on.

It's now discontinued by Burley, it seems, but it's still by far the best
of it's kind, in my opinion. You can still find them online for ~$350.
When it's time to sell mine, I expect to have no difficulty getting ~$275.
The resale value on these things is spectacular.
