I decided about 8:00 tonight I needed to get a ride in or I would feel all slothlike for the weekend. So I grabbed a water bottle flipped a coin between the romulus and the hilsen (homer won) not knowing exactly where I was going to go. I ended up about a half hour before sundown (8:30ish) riding through some beautiful areas just completely chock-a-block with fireflies. Passing one section I widened my gaze enough to catch a dozen or more flashes of yellow/greenish light from them, it was lovely to see. I thought to stop and record them for a moment but I wanted to press on and enjoy the cool air more. Once night had completely fallen the cyo served me well to lighten up things - just enough so I could see the roads and wide enough so I could count the deer eyeballs (11 deer in total, tonight).
I hadn't been out for a night ride in the country in a while, mostly opting to ride through the, relatively, well lit cityscape in the evenings. After the day of rather ugly, thick heat and humidity the cool breeze and lightness of the air was soothing. It being a sunday evening the other traffic was at a minimum and on several stretches no other traffic of any kind (except for the aforementioned deer and fireflies). It was good to get away for a bit. However, just before 10pm when the motion detector in front of the bike shed kicked on the flood light I was glad to have it. Glad to be home. I didn't go fast or particularly far but it's not about that, is it? I wish I had some pictures to prove it happened but you're just going to have to take my word for it. -sv -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "RBW Owners Bunch" group.
