Hey there -

As I've mentioned in passing, I'm working as bicycle mentor this summer with the local cycling advocacy group - (Marin County bicycle Coalition - http://marinbike.org) One of the winners in the "Bike Locally Challenge" had been away from bikes for ~15 years or so, and his interest has been reinvigorated to the point where he wants to get a better road bicycle. He's also interested in possibly a suspended mtb setup. The salient point is that he's also 6'7".

I'm sure you can guess that my first recommendation was a trip to Walnut Creek to see what wonder can be found in reliable frames with good clearances, but I'd also like to put him in touch with taller/ larger individuals who have been down this road. Even with my good intentions, my experiences as a 6'/185 lb. rider are going to be of limited use. Things begin to change a bit when you edge past a couple meters...

So, if you wouldn't mind emailing me - use my cyclofiend at gmail dot com address - if you wouldn't mind acting as a Tall Feller's Brain Trust for this enthusiastic rider. I'll give it over the weekend or so to compile the names and then pass along your contact info directly to him. If you want to give a one-two sentence intro and bike list, that would help too.

Obviously, I think he can be fitted well to a larger Hilsen, Hillborne or other versatile bicycle in the Rivendell lineup. He's bought a cheap, older, rigid mtb which sounds like it's too small for him (haven't seen it or him ride yet), and the "Challenge" bike has been fitted to him pretty well, but ... isn't a Riv... ;^)

I appreciate any offers of help and thank you all in advance!
