Mike, I thought they were fine. In the wider size the tread is bigger too; not exactly knobby but you get what I'm saying. As far as cushy, I ran them at 40-45 psi or so for the smoother sections and actually 20 front/25 rear for the less smooth sections (I'm 170 lbs. these days). I had no trouble with pinch flats. I think the sidewalls of these Schwalbes are tougher than many other tires.
