You don't mention how well-equipped with tools you may be.
 
Bicycle assembly is not "difficult", and modern parts go together 
surprisingly easily, but there still are a few tricks, and a few 
opportunities for knowlege and discipline and care.  Can you find someone 
locally who is truly knowledgeable, who might build/help build the bike for 
you, pointing out the moments when experience is leading him or her to do 
things in a certain, methodical way?  If a few grains of experience and 
wisdom are passed on, you will remember and enjoy them each time you go 
through the process in the future.
 
If you need to pay for such help, perhaps keep in mind that it's easy to 
cut the cables too short, or to screw up the chain, and the cost of 
replacing those two items would go a long way toward covering the expense 
of the teacher.  
 
Or not.  :-)
