Hi iBOBs, Rivendell Fans,

I have a matched pair of Acorn bags for sale.

The Acorn site is here:

http://www.acornbags.com/index.html

These bags are not exactly like any of the current offerings but are very
close to the large saddlebag:

http://www.acornbags.com/lgbag.html

and the handlebar bag:

http://www.acornbags.com/hdlbarbag.html

These bags are a light tan-khaki color - much lighter than what is pictured
on the Acorn site which is a different color altogether. My saddlebag has
more D-rings on top and the side pockets close with leather straps, not
with metal twists. If you don't have Brooks-style bag loops you may need
to buy additional leather straps to attach this saddlebag since is it set
up to hook directly to the bag loops:

My handlebar bag has more D-rings on the side - near the top and bottom for
attaching stabilizing straps and the pockets on mine close with the leather
straps, not metal twists.

The only flaw(s) on mine are where some wheels spray has stained, soiled
and discolored the fabric. See:

and:

Those stains are not obvious at a casual glance but if you want perfect,
this is not the deal for you. I believe the stains can be removed -
suggestions as to how to do that are linked to the Acorn site - probably
just Ivory soap and a bristle brush - but I make no guarantees. If this
stain is a deal breaker I am sorry but please don't buy and then complain.

Other than the two places shown, the bags are like new. They were mounted
and used for about 6 rides, all of which were dry conditions but on one I
found a puddle which is why there are stains.

More pictures than necessary at:

https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/111838829033930119881/albums/5801944830560327185

The pictures were taken on different days at different places with
different lighting, some using flash. The color of the bags looks
different in different pictures but overall you can easily tell what color
the bags are.

I am happy to answer and questions, take more photographs or provide
precise measurements. For reference each bag is approximately one-foot in
its longest dimension and each holds approximately the same amount - the
saddlebag probably a little more than handlebar bag especially because it
has an expanding top, which the handlebar bag does not. Any statement of
maximum capacity would be a guess as the bags are soft-sided. It depends
on how you pack, what you are packing and whether you use the D-rings to
lash on a jacket, etc. These are true Acorns and you can use the
information on their site to answer some questions. Each bag has a
document pocket separate from the larger main pocket.

I am suggesting a total of $175 for both bags, which includes shipping and
you can use PayPal if you like. The bags will be shipped no later than the
next business day after I receive PayPal. If you pay by check you can take
$5 off the price but I will wait to ship until the check clears.

I don't know much about Acorn products and their value as "used" items,
especially with this soil. I want to get what the bags are worth but I am
not trying to gouge. If you don't like my price you are welcome to suggest
what you think would be fair, including a higher amount if you want to.
Right now I am only offering these bags as a set. If they don't sell, I
will offer them individually and maybe I will take a whack at cleaning the
stain. I am going to wait a few hours at least to see what offers I get -
it is OK to offer a higher or lower price - and I promise I will then get
back to everyone who responds.

What you can only see in person is the detail and consistency in the
assembly of these bags. I found no design or assembly flaws. Considering
that the bags are made from natural materials, not molded plastic, a great
deal of subtle care and pride can be seen in the manufacture of these
bags. If you just want utility and function, these bags are more than you
need, yet they are not so overdone that you would have to be a serious
bag-matcher to appreciate them.  The fabric is just the right thickness;
the metal does not corrode/oxidize; the zippers are smooth; the leather is
all consistently sized and sewn. Nice.

The answer to why they are being sold is that I am narrowing down my
diamond frame
fleet and the items that go with it. The answer to the next question is (1)
to maintain marital harmony, (2) because we will be moving to a smaller
place and (3) because I am experimenting with recumbency. Yes, I know, two
years ago I didn't consider a recumbent to be a real bike. Things
changeas we age.

Thanks

John
