The other day I saw, from behind the wheel of my car, a rider raising her
left arm to signal a right turn. It took me a moment to figure out what she
was doing, so long has it been since my grammar-school bike-education
class. When I ride, I signal a right turn by holding my right arm out to
the right. But if said arm is in deep shade or if I'm already riding in the
right lane, over near the curb, I might try the old left-handed "halt"
signal to be sure drivers behind and to my left can see my intention.
