The differences of cog width are such that the 7,8 and 9 speed are 
interchangeable.  
The Miche 8/9 sp. cogs can also be used as 7 sp.

Then it really comes down to dialing in the spacers ... and they need not 
be perfectly precise , with friction at least. From what I've read before 
though, they not be absolutely precise for indexed either.
