Finally following up on another lister's suggestion months ago that I buy a luggage scale to weigh bikes and parts instead of an expensive bike scale, I received my made-in-China electronic POS in today's mail and immediately sprinted to the garage to weigh --- things. Pendo, ergo sunt.

Fargo, with empty Dutch panniers (just back from mail run) and 5 lb of kit in front small Ortlieb: damn if it didn't weight 44.5x lb. My GAWD! I shall try again tomorrow without the Dutchies, hoping to find that they weigh 15 lb emtpy. And, man, this is with the lightweight Rhyno Lite/Kojak wheelset! Heaviest fun bike I've owned. Great for curls, too.

But much relief to find that my '99 gofast with stuffed Jandd seat pack weights 17.54.

That's an average of 31 lb, which puts me smack in approved Rivendell territory.
