Last January my wife and I happened to be in Berkeley and stopped by
Rivendell to take a look at the Betty Foy. I wasn't interested in a new
bike, but needed something so I could go on a test ride with her. At the
time I wouldn't even look at anything with 2TT's, so they set me up with a
1TT 65cm Hilsen; hard to believe now there ever was such a thing. We did
not have much time that day and left without a purchase. The following
March we had another opportunity and set up an appointment for an extended
test ride. I was right up front with Rivendell and told them that I,
personally, wasn't in the market, but wanted the opportunity to test ride
something; anything; their choice. When we arrived I was given a 60cm
green 2TT Sam Hillborne. We took off for an extensive 4 hour test ride.
I had never felt more comfortable on a bike. The handling was superb. I
felt as though I could do anything and/or ride anywhere on that bike. To
make a long story short we came home with Betty and Sam Hillborne frames
that day. I wasn't influenced by looks, price, the RMW Owners Bunch, 2TT's
or anything else. I simply liked the fit and ride. Since than I've put
almost 4,000 miles on the bike and have only ridden my former favorite
once. I've also grown to appreciate the novelty of the 2TT. Not sure what
it adds or detracts from, but I'm happy with the ride handling
characteristics and it is kinda clool having something a little different.
