Yep - the red/white MB-2 is an 89; I have the identical bike in my basement.
I'm embarassed to say I've been sitting on it for nearly 2 years now after
picking it up on CL for $50. Original owner was a woman who used it on-road
only, including a couple times riding STP. My plan is to make it my go-to
utilitarian gravel road commuter do everything bike. I like the look of the
Brooks on it! only drawback I can see is there is no hole in the fork crown for
fender/rack mounting, and no front dropout mounts, though the rear has seatstay
and dropout mounts. I'm a little nervous about drilling the fork, but I think
I'll do it anyway. BTW, when my wife and I started dating and she was still
living at home, her parents wanted to get her a bike for Christmas. Portland
was all out, but I located an MB-6 like the one pictured over at the coast, and
was happy to make the deal and drive over and pick it up. She eventually passed
it on to one of her sisters who lives on a ranch in SE Oregon. Last I heard she
was still riding it on the gravel roads over there. Nice MB-1! Glad it fits.
