Today my son and I stopped by the Rivendell shop and borrowed a
Hunqapillar for him to ride. Keven was more than accomodating and in
short order we were off to Shell Ridge on a glorious
75 degree day with nary a cloud. I was riding a Rawland rSogn with
drop bars and knobby tires. The Hungapillar had albatross bars and
fat Scwalbe tires of some sort. Neither of us had ever ridden such
a bike before. Can't say either of us were sold on the albatross
bars but we both loved the solid and stable ride when descending. We
hit it pretty hard and had a great time exploring trails and getting
sorta lost. We had a copy of the Mount Diablo State Park trail map
and found it to be invaluable. We've never ridden on trails quite
like those that Shell Ridge offers. We are from the NW and are used
to mud, ferns, gnarly tree roots, and giant Doug firs and cedars. The
trails we were on were wide open, pretty smooth, and certainly had
plenty of ups and downs. I think we did about 2,900' of climbng over
15 miles (including the ride from/to Riv HQ's).

I can't think of another shop that would turn someone loose on a
$3,500+ bike for an afternoon of fun with virtually no questions
asked. Thanks again. It was a great day.
