Not sure the current condition... but sometimes they close a chunk of the Angeles Crest Hwy in winter <http://www.flickr.com/photos/15966859@N07/8130042983/>. I've hiked it when it's closed... makes for a cool adventure. You'd have to carry the bike over some snowy stretches, but there'd be a lot of dry pavement all to yourself. Also the closed section of Hwy 39 that connects with the Angeles Crest Hwy is lonely.
