Some and oddly not all Shimano pods have a nub on the square that interferes with the square-holed spacer that fits over it. If so, two options: (1) Dremel down the nub, a do-able pain, I've done it twenty times in the early days; (2) Cut out the square-holed washer so it fits over it. Not quite plug-n-play, but that's life.
