I was cycling with my brother in Switzerland a few years back, and he got a cut in the side-wall of his tyre big enough for my little finger to fit through. I asked if he had a banknote on him, and he produced a 200 franc note, which I used to boot the tyre. We only re-inflated it to about 30 psi as even with the boot, the cut was bulging a bit at that pressure. The tyre lasted the rest of the day and quite a few more kilometres until we got to a town with a bike shop, but he got a bit worried towards the end of the day when I suggested that maybe the squirming around of the tyre due to the low pressure was gradually wearing all the print off his banknote - 200 francs equates to about $215.
