This is a cross post from IBOB. We don't talk about helmets much here at
RBW Bunch because we are civil and don't like to get into shouting matches.
A quick search of the archives shows no discussion of this new
MIPS technology, so maybe it's new for you.

Except for styling, helmets haven't changed much since the 1990s. This new
MIPS (multi-directional impact protection system) technology is the first
helmet to claim to help minimize concussions at the more common impact
angle of 30-45 degrees. "On impact, the helmet rotates independent of the
MIPS liner, absorbing some rotational acceleration." Read about it here
(apologies to all for a link to Buycycling rag):

REI has one for sale: *

At $200, its pricey. It differs in a few other ways. It also has greater
coverage down the back of the helmet. And it is meant for multiple impacts.
Personally I don't dislike the styling, without the aero-fin on most road
helmets, and I never bought into the mtn vs road helmet difference anyway.
I am going to try it and can report back to the group after a few weeks of
riding.
