Tim - I do 13 one-way fairly often in my "long-way" Seattle commute.  Here
are a few things I've found that helps:
1. leave the heavy clothes at work, and don't carry your computer if you
can help it.
2. give yourself ample time, and take your time - easy to get tired out
after a few days of an hour of elevated heart rate.
3. don't worry too much about rain gear.  I find myself only donning rain
gear in the worst downpours.  Most Seattle rain is harmless to humans.
