Woke up today knowing there would be a lot of LOUD construction due to all the
heavy equipment that had appeared in town over the weekend. My plan was to
escape to Rampart Reservoir which was partly burned by the Waldo Canyon fire
last year. But I really didn't want to spend another day away from my wife and
kids, so asked if they would join me (driving part way there to make it
possible). Indeed they did, so off we went.

Everything looked lush and green (for Colorado) and untouched for the first
2/3rds of the ride. Then trails that had been old roads overgrown to single
track were freshly plowed from fire trucks getting access. Entire new junctions
existed and we sent out our oldest lassies as scouts to try and figure out
which ones to take. Getting lost actually took us into the burn area. Wow. The
transformation from pine and aspen forest to chard lodge poles without a lodge
is stunning to see. After a few tries at a few places, we got it right. "Our"
site was untouched.

The thunderstorms began rolling in, everyone but me ate lunch (since I fast for
24 hours between meals), we got a wonderful drenching and light and sound show,
and home we bound.

Life is beautiful! What a wondrous way to spend 8 hours avoiding construction
noise!
