I noticed a remarkable drop in the amount of water I need with two things:

-- I switched to always nose breathing
-- I eliminated grains and most carbs from my diet.

That includes 8 hour runs in the heat of the day in the Canyon Lands at 
100+ temps (low humidity) drinking under 40 oz. and not being thirsty after.
