A couple of weeks ago I asked the list for some suggestions on places to
ride for my Pacific NW roadtrip. We ended up staying twice in Portland with
a 3-night bike-camping trip in the San Juan Islands. It was great.

We didn't get out of Portland for any ride, but rode all over town for the
total 4 nights we stayed. On the islands we stayed at Lopez and Orcas, and
visited San Juan Island. The ride on the west shore of San Juan, and on
Orcas were spectacular, especially riding from Eastsound to the top of Mt
Constitution in Moran State Park. Here are some pictures from the trip. We
both rode 650b-wheeled bikes, where my wife carried her load on a tubus
rear rack on her 82' Trek 720 and I carried most of the load upfront on my
Sequoia with a kogswell low-trail fork. Both bikes worked great as touring
bikes. I saw David's (cyclotourist) flickr pictures on his visit to
Portland and am a little envious he got to ride with some folks around
town, but we had a good time. Next time!
