Fascinating! The photo of the guy moving camp certainly gives modern "bike packing" a run for the money. And the stories.. how about the guy who killed a 5 and a half foot snake that had just slithered across his face while he slept!
I also notice, the concept of "stand-over clearance" seems to not have existed back then. Didn't trouble those guys apparently. Bicycles had just replaced the horse after all.
