Portland to Astoria is pretty easy. This perm has the roads hooked together to get to Birkenfeld; you just keep going on Hwy 202, and you will be in Astoria. reverse mi 64.2 to Skyline. Coming out of PDX, I'd recommend going up through Washington Park on SW Kingston, turning R on SW Knights Blvd, L on SW Fairview, L on Burnside, bear R onto Skyline. Or you can go W on Hwy 30 to Scappoose, and then take Scappoose-Vernonia over the hill to Hwy 202, turn R.
Cross the bridge, head to Raymond, keep going, and head for Aberdeen. Hwy 101 north on the Olympic Peninsula isn't all that crowded; SIR has many brevet routes there. Detour to La Push to check out the sea stacks. Lake Crescent is amazingly gorgeous. Keep following around and you will get to Port Townsend. Get onto the Old Olympic Hwy as often as you can; Hwy 101 gets to be much less fun. Hwy 104 to Pt Townsend is, um, seriously lumpy. have a great ride!
