I'm not too surprised at the lack of CF on the trip. Western Michigan is a huge tourist area, a lot of cyclotourists and other vacationers are around in the summer and most of the destinations will be populated with touring or hybrid/trail bikes. I can assure you, if you stayed in one place a few days or looked for the local clubs you would find herds of spandex hamsters rocketing around the countryside on their weekly rides.
