GPS is fun, but it's not as good as it seems to be. Like my computers, when they work, they save time, when they don't, they waste time. As for "rivish", I think that would be a friend's hand-drawn map, or one of those maps with lots of blank space, like an old USFS fire road map, with places like "the misty mountain" penciled in with a red pencil...I like mine, too, but leave it behind now when I go further.
