That's a dumb fix in the middle of a bike path! I should think that the government department responsible for it would be liable to a claim for damages. After all, it *is* a bike path.
I got my *rear* wheel into the gap between sections of a cattle grid one afternoon 20 years ago, at speed, and did a head-over-heels tumble with the bike having enough momentum to launch out of the crack and tumble over me -- I recollect seeing it cartwheel ahead of me down the road. I was very kindly picked up by two "Deliverance" types in an old pickup, who were taking their Harley's valves for grinding (big!) and who dropped me off at the hospital (where I worked as PR Director; Gallup, NM). Just lacerations and bruised ribs in that one.
