Hi Mike - I have a Berthoud Galibier ti saddle. I was also confused when the rails seemed to be too narrow to fit on my Nitto S83. I contacted Boulder Bicycle who sold me the saddle and was told that I needed to gently persuade the rails into the grooves of the seat post.
I think that could be your problem as well. Good luck!
