Got it Curtis :-) I will be riding fenders on the Sam. Since my somewhat
inconsiderate employer decided to book me for lunch tomorrow with a certain
South Korean manufacturer of cell phones and ace me out of part 1 of the
ride, I left work early today and reconed the west end of Gonzales on my
29er to get an update on trail conditions as they are now. It is always
changing base on rain and horse impact.

Reference is made to the Gonzales Canyon
Map.<http://www.sandiego.gov/park-and-recreation/pdf/gonzalestrailmap.pdf>

I rode all the way West to the SeaBreeze Stables. It led to a somewhat
unfortunate conversation between myself and the equestrians. I was
diplomatic. The equestrians, not so much. We are not getting through
there unless we get chased by nasty people on horses who don't like
bicycles. The people don't like us, the horses are OK. I can charm a
horse. Too bad since SeaBreeze seems to have co-opted some public ROW that
runs through their stables under the high power tension lines. I
backtracked to the lagoon trail (blue on the map) and climbed to Las
Brisas. Not too hard for me in terms of energy, but ruts, sand, and
rockbed took about everything a 19 lb carbon fiber dual suspension
Specialized Epic can do. I would not feel comfortable on the fendered Sam.
I backtracked and took the power line service road (red on the map) back up
to to Dog Park in the Torrey Highlands Park. It is a well groomed fire
road, but a bit steep. Worst case, a twenty minute walk up the Service
Road with your bicycle. Better, some parts are rideable. I rode it all
the way on the Epic.

This is Hugh's deal and God bless him for proposing it. I''ll defer to him
and the group consensus as we go.

Looking forward to seeing you folks tomorrow.
