I just started using a studded front tire- in my case, a 700x40 Kenda
Klondike. It's a noisy tire, someone likened studded tires to frying bacon,
which I can confirm as eerily accurate. I actually like the sound; it makes
me feel like I'm driving a tank (which I kinda am).

The tire is sluggish, but not as bad as I was expecting. Only slightly
worse than the 32mm Pasela TG that was on there prior. I suppose if I had
studs front and back, it would be significantly worse. I'm not certain, but
I think the Schwalbe might have more studs than the Kendas, so maybe
increased rolling resistance comparatively (?)

On sheer ice, it's the tits! (pardon the expression). I can now cycle over
ice that I would not even be able to walk across. Pretty neat.
