What about a rear wheel rebuild with an ENO hub? Or, even cheaper, a used ENO rear wheel, which I see offered on this or the iBoblist from time to time?
Or cheaper yet, a chain tensioner? (You don't say that you want to ride fixed.) I got many very pleasant fixed gear commuting miles out of a '95 Riv Road Custom using an ENO; ironic, since at the time Grant was pushing horizontals and I stubbornly held out for verticals. I also built a *very* nice drop bar mtb fixie all rounder with an ENO and 60 mm Big Apples. Although I sold my Sam Hill, I think highly enough of it to suggest that selling it without any real dislike of any of its many particular qualitirs, just to try ss or fixed, just might end up being regretted.
