Tried to post before but I think google ate it, sorry if this comes through twice.
I had to bend the struts in order to avoid the same issue when I installed a Tubus rack on a 54 cm AHH with Silver calipers. Riv's youtube site has a video showing you how to do it: hold the struts in a vice and use a mallet. I don't know if this significantly weakens the struts but it's held fine for over two years.
