--- Comment #10 from Paul Scott <psc...@skycoast.us> --- (In reply to Alexander Ziaee from comment #9) I have waited 20 days since I was incensed by your comment and closing of this incident. I've tried to calm down, but after 20 days I feel as enraged as the day of your comment. Nevertheless, I will try to be civil pointing out that you're taking inappropriate action based on uninformed and irrational opinion. [invective euphemism deleted] Yes, rc(8) already says "especially an appropriate "PROVIDE" entry" but it doesn't explain why. But importantly, rcorder(8) says ""A file may contain zero `PROVIDE' lines, in which case it provides no conditions." These two sources are at odds with each other. One can read rcorder(8) and be allowed to infer that `PROVIDE' is optional. But there are clearly times when it is not, and rc(8) doesn't provide any rationale as to why. But it's rcorder(8) that contains the offending inference, and that's logically where it needs to be addressed. Not only because it infers optionality but because it's rcorder that processes the `PROVIDE" entry, while rc(8) is an overview. I find your comment, "Afaict, in 17 years, 3 people have been bothered by this," insulting. I am one of those 3 people and to be perfectly honest my first impulse was to simply say, "Oh" and move on without bothering to open a fix request (let's be honest and admit this bug tracker isn't always about technical bugs). But, realizing that I spent more time on this than should have been necessary and that other people might too, I took the time and effort to open this incident. I almost didn't. And there's no telling how many other people actually didn't. But my desire to act in the best interests of my fellow colleagues overrode my natural indolence. Further, your comment, "instead of bolting on more bloat," is specious. The one sentence fix is hardly bloat and it articulately and effectively eliminates the problem. To infer that it would bloat the manual to the point nobody would read it is laughable. Reading that sentence is illuminating. I request that Felix Johnson's patch be applied. It is the correct solution. Please. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
