I used oak blocks but oak its not so easy to acquire (or cut) ,you could try a 
visit to a local timber yard and ask them for waist off-cuts  , however you may 
be better off using ply strips and replace them when necessary .( Just don’t 
glue them ). 
I`ve been thinking of a new variant on the TTS , a more KTS drive system 
approach . I`ll attach a photo.

All I`ve done is replace wooden guide horns for metal ones , but they will also 
help to hold things together

When I made TTS for the leopard I made the pads 100mm X 25mm X 6mm with a gap 
of about 10mm between each pad.

when building a TTS setting out jig, make it full length if possible , just 
closely copy Steve T and you wont go far wrong.
