I only use MDF in low stress areas (like the top of the hull) and make
sure its fully coated with fibreglass resin. The resin keeps it water/
paintgoo proof. All the areas that see any stress (lower hull mostly)
I use 1/2" ply.
You could use ply or even aluminium in place of the MDF but I find the
MDF is eaisiest to work with and gives a nice flat surface. Plus, at
$10 a sheet its the cheapest too.
