Hello -
The VIA Pico-ITX board has been mentioned in this forum a few times as a candidate for an embedded controller for a tank. It's pretty tiny, 10cm x 7.2cm, and packs a 1Ghz processor and plenty of USB ports for device control. It doesn't have a FireWire port, which is too bad, but you can't have everything I guess. Anyway, the embedded systems group at Microsoft is sponsoring a new 'Spark Your Imagination' competition and giving away 50 Pico-ITX builder's kits. It has the board, a small chassis, DC-DC converter, Windows CE and a lot of accessories. I think the kit alone is worth $400-$500 and you can win $15000 on top of that. Check out the details at http://www.sparkcontest.com/howtoenter.aspx. Even if you don't enter, please log on and give my idea a high rating ! Mine is the 'The Smart Pill'.
