Starter motors aren't suitable without a lot of work. But if you are in a scrap yard windscreen wiper motors come complete with gear boxes and a quick mod to stop the case being used as a ground will see them as reliable sources of motion. Many also have high speed and low speed brushes that allow you two options for wiring up.
