Reading through the comments (on /.) I can safely say that a number of them are all too accurate at pinpointing the real issue here.
In the UK there was a similar issue about 2-3 years back regarding people owning their own markers, since the government somehow thought you could use those as real weapons (I think they were confused!) - Thankfully (as far as I can make out) the UK Paintball Sports Federation stepped in to sort that out and the UK laws have actually been made sensible (to an extent) and haven't banned having your own marker. Whether there is an organisation who will step in in Germany, I know not, but if there isn't, the Millennium Series are going to have a problem - their next European tournament is in Bitburg, Germany.
