Since I wanted to get the most bang for my shipping buck, I bought 3 sheets
of 1/2" and 2 sheets of 1/4".
I also bought a box of cutoffs on their specials page that has various
cutoff pieces in sizes up to 1" thick.
I used 1.5 sheets of the 1/2" and a partial sheet of the 1/4" on the KV-2.
I'll probably end up using the other
part of the 1/4" sheet to complete the turret. The only down side is cost,
but
very little of the cutoffs are going to waste. I have maybe enough waste to
fill a 2"x2" square. The upsides
outway the cost IMHO with no splintering, cuts with wood tools, pretty
easily formed into complex shapes, high
strength, no waterproofing needed, and no issues with dealing with warped
pieces (when puchased new
of course). I love it! Anything I build in the future will be made from
PVC. I have enough material left over
to re-make the M113 chassis with PVC. That will be the next project. I'm
going to see what colors Plasticote
comes in and use that to paint it. I have used that stuff on other plastic
projects and it's very hard to scratch off.
