The technology to make a viable all electric commuter car has been available since the early 90's (remember the EV1?). There are many entrenched players that have a keen interest in not developing the all- electric car. From dealerships who's major profit center is the repair bays, to the auto parts suppliers and manufacturers, to oil companies and gas station owners, and of course the car manufacturers and workers unions. The piston internal combustion engine has been obsolete for decades but it continues to be a huge source of profit for many industries. Imagine replacing this limited lifetime assembly containing hundreds of moving parts with one that has only one? Electric vehicle development by the major players has been and continues to be a scam to placate the environmentalists, the politicians, and as a means to collect those government research grants. There are a few smaller players that are promising to deliver an affordable electric car "sometime soon" and are more than willing to accept your down-payment to get on the waiting queue (Aptera for example) but I'm not holding my breath. For isn't it easier (and more profitable) to just collect the down payments and government research funds than to actually produce a car?
